*on the Death Anniversary of
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahab
the last common Legend of Indo Pak Music.
Kuch to hawa bhi sard thi, kuch tha tera khayal bhi.. Dil ko khushi ke sath sath hota raha malaal bhi.
I wanted to say a lot about of him. But he was so multifaceted personality that i had to think again and again of which aspect of his art to be discussed with you. He started with Qawwalies and was already among the top 5 Qawwals of the country long before the joint venture with Peter Gabriel which gave him immense popularity as a trend-setter of the east and west fusion music..and when i look at the music he composed, he stands matchless there.. The way he made full stretch use of Asha in thoRa sa Pagla thoRa Deewana song and Alka in Pyar nahi karna Jahan sara kehta hay and the softness of Udit Narayen in Teri Yaad Humsafar Subah Sham are just a few examples of his musical genius. In very short span he used to quickly measure the strength of singer under his composition.. a sign of intelligent music director. I came across his compositions of geet and ghazals in Jashn-e-Faisalabad around 1978 i think. He sang for the whole night there and no body moved out of the arena. It was meant to be a qawwali night but when he started with light songs and ghazals the crowd was in pindrop silence. It was an unforgettable night and to my very surprise i dunt see much of the recordings of it on youtube or even on internet where there are hundreds other of his gems. May be oneday i can share those with you as i have those recordings through the courtesy of the great son of the soil Ustad Taari Khan who accompanied him on tabla that night. The ghazal of Parveen Shakir am present here in his fond rememberence is easily available in market cassettes and CDs but again to my utmost surprise when i searched it on net for an hour or so i failed to find it as downloadable mp3 and thus it became a must for me to share it with those fans across the world who are unable to catch it. So its not a rare gem in essence but a sweet memory and a soft feeling in it is to be conveyed to you. This ghazal's Poetess Parveen Shakir (the lone poetess in Indo-Pak history to impress me with her grace, beauty and diction above all) aint among us too and this is surely one of her most beautiful ghazals...just for those who loved someone..and lost.
Bear the pain with me plz and remember the duo which the music and literature envied upon.
Regards
Dr.Bukhari

Sanoon Ki Mala Peh by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (1948-1997) from Faisalabad (Lyallpur), Pakistan. This song/qawwali was copied and featured in the 1997 Bollywood film "Koyla" picturised on Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit. The "TIME" magazine (06 November 2006) lists Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in its "60 Years of Asian Heroes" as one of the top 12 artists and thinkers during 1946 and 2006. SPIN magazine listed Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan as one of the 50 most influential artists of music in 1998. Nusrat was called "Shahenshah-e-Qawwali" (The Emperor of Qawwali). His father, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan and his paternal uncles Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan, and Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, who were distinguished and legendary musicologists, vocalists and instrumentalists, trained his young son, Nusrat, who was more interested in music than becoming an engineer or a doctor. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan became popular in Europe and the USA when worked with Peter Gabriel on the soundtrack to "The Last Temptation of Christ" in 1985, and with the Canadian musician, Michael Brook, on the albums "Mustt Mustt" in 1990, and the "Night Song" in 1996, reaching millions around the world. "Mustt Mustt" and "Dam Mast Qalandar" were also copied and featured in Bollywood films. He also worked with Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder in 1995 on two songs for the soundtrack to "Dead Man Walking," and contributed to the soundtrack of "Natural Born Killers". According to the "Guinness Book of World Records", Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan holds the world record for the largest recorded output by a Qawwali artist—a total of 125 albums as of 2001. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Nusrat had a six-octave vocal range and could perform at a high-level of intensity for several hours, often lasting an hour or more. Shortly before his 1997 death (only a few days before British Princess Diana died or was killed in a car "accident" in Paris, France), he recorded a song each for two Bollywood films, "Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya" (in which he also appeared) and "Kachche Dhaage". Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is responsible for the modern evolution of Qawwali. He popularised the blending of "khayal" singing and techniques with Qawwali. He blended Qawwali music with western styles such as electronic music, inspiring thousands of singers and musicians around the world. His millions of fans around the world included: British Princess Diana, cricketer Imran Khan, the late American rock singer Jeff Buckley; Eddie Vedder; Paul Williams; percussionist Brook Martinez; The Red Hot Chili Peppers; The Derek Trucks Band; Giuseppe Asaro, etc. According to one of his fans: His "music invites us to eavesdrop on a man communing with his God, ever so eloquently. He makes the act of singing a passionate offering to God. But we do not merely eavesdrop. The deepest part of Nusrat's magic lies in the fact that he is able to bring our hearts to resonate with the music, so deeply, that we ourselves become full partners in that offering. He sings to God, and by listening, we also sing to God".

Tere Bin - Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (1948-1997). This is the orginal song that was copied by Lata Mangeshkar for the 1999 Bollywood film "Kache Dhaage" starring Manisha Koirala, Ajay Devgan. Before he passed away, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan composed the music for the film. Viewer's Discretion Advised on this VIDEO song. Another piece of art, get in to the real world... take your headphone on.. turn volume on full and watch... I've tried to show miseries in the flash point Asian & Middle East region. Here I'm singing Late Guru Nusrat Fateh Ali's famous song and I hope I could do a bit justice to it. Please leave your valuable comments.

Close English translation:
When would the grieves of world end
When would the undue punishment end
Whoever muttered got penalized
So many here got demised
Thats the reward for who speaks
Given by the heaven geeks
When would the grieves of world end
When would the undue punishment end
There's no hope no care, even though we plead
Its not just me but everyone is grieved
When would the grieves of world end
When would the undue punishment end

Tujh se naraaz nahi zindagi by Amanat Ali live in Lahore for Geo TV. Lyrics by Gulzar for the 1983 Indian movie Masoom. Amanat Ali from Faisalabad-Pakistan became popular after his outstanding performances on Zee TV 2007 talent contest. Born 10 October 1987, Amanat Ali was a finalist on "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa" Challenge 2007. He received 334,314,257 votes in the final two weeks. Amanat Ali is the son of Pakistani singer Nazakat Ali. His two uncles, Hasan Sadiq and Sharafat Ali, religious eulogies (naats, noha, dhamals, and hamds).
Earlier in his life, he performed with another great singer, Nusrat Feteh Ali Khan (1948-1997), who was also from Faisalabad, Pakistan. Amanat Ali has sung for the Bollywood music director Bappi Lahiri for the movie "Bal Ganesh". He has also sung the title song for K C Bokadia's "Junoon"; and for music directors Vishal-Shekhar in the film "Dostana" 2008. Amanat Ali released his own album "Khoram" in February 2009 after his 2008 concert tours in the USA and Canada. Many Bollywood stars of the Indian film entertainment industry, such as choreographer Farah Khan (2007 film Om Shanti Om director) and Indian ghazal singer Jagjit Singh, heralded him as a "great discovery" and remarked that Amanat Ali "goes beyond Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007". Many say that a selection of his performances over nine weeks (May-Oct 2007) (including: "Hungama hai kyun", "Mitwa" and "Tujh se naraz nahin zindagi") were sung in a unique manner, with judges saying that Amanat Ali's performances were better than the original. The original version of this song were by Anoop Ghoshal link here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Eazk4A4KeE and by Lata Mangeshkar link here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZM4a-Co2ZIw .
