Reshma Sings - Bulleh shah
******************************
About Singer:
Reshma, (not to be mistaken for former Soviet air base name " Reshma" :D ) is a renowned folk singer of Pakistan, She is popular in India too.
She was born in Pallu village of Bikaner, Rajasthan (British India) to a Gypsy family in 1947. Her family moved to Pakistan during the partition of India.
Reshma known as "The Voice of the Desert" Her voice possesses that rare quality that is often aspired to, but attained by only a chosen few what one might almost call the sublime catharsis of the soul.
It has the ability to make listeners believe not only in passion, but experience all its manifestations the torture of waiting for a beloved, the ecstacy of union, the sharp pain of betrayal, the sadness of loss.
She says she does not have any training in classical music.
In 2004 her rendition of Ashkan Di Gali Vich Mukaam De Gaya was in the top ten of the Indian charts.
Her most famous song is "Lambi Judai", sung for a Bollywood film Hero.
Once asked Reshma How did you decide to sing in a Bollywood film Hero ? She she replied "The director of Who Tera Naam Tha, Kuku Kohli came to meet me in London where I had a concert. He asked me if I would sing in his film and I told him, When you have travelled all the way to invite me with so much affection how can I say no."
In October 2002 Reshma performed at the Brunei Gallery in London to a packed full of Pakistani expatriates her daughter Khadija and Umayr also performed.
" I have been very lucky, by the grace of God, she mused. Whilst most of my tribe members have not journeyed beyond Pakistan, various governments have sent me to countries across the world. Ive been to Disneyland in America "bohat barra hai America". Ive been to Hollywood, and even to Canada where I dipped my feet in the Niagara Falls.
In Washington, I saw the "badshah ka mahal" and in England, the "malka ka mahal". Which one did you like more? Hmmm obviously the "malka ka mahal". It was so clean and white and huge. I thought to myself when I saw it, "wah, na mitti, na koi gundd".
I have even climbed the Wall of China. Looking at the mountains around me, I felt so overwhelmed that I began to sing, "Hayo Raba Nahin Lagda Dil Mera". The gora log who were by the wall at that time stopped and began to stare at me. When I finished, they all clapped and said, "wah, kiya range wali awaz hai".
Based in Lahore, she is an advocate of good relations between India and Pakistan.
In January 2006 she was one of the passengers on the inaugural Lahore-Amritsar bus, the first such service linking both parts of the Punjab since 1947.

About Singer:
Ghulam Ali (born 1940) is a famous Pakistani ghazal singer Ali was born in the village of Kaleke in the Sialkot district of Punjab, British India (now in Pakistan).
He belongs to a musical family his father was a vocalist and a sarangi player who gave him early training.
At the age of 15, he became a student of the legendary Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, who was a master of the Patiala Gharana (Patiala School) of Hindustani music. His actual training was provided mainly by Bade Ghulam Ali Khan's three brothers Barqat Ali Khan, Mubarak Ali Khan, and Amanat Ali Khan, in Lahore.
All these great teachers of classical music taught him the finer nuances of classical music and his solid foundation of classical music included studying Thumri and learning to sing ragas.
Career
Ali started singing for Radio Lahore in 1960. Ghulam Ali's father named him "Ghulam Ali" after Bade Ghulam Ali. Along with singing ghazals, Ghulam Ali composes music for his ghazals too.
His compositions are raaga-based and sometimes include a scientific mixture of raagas.
He is known for blending gharana-gaayaki into ghazal and this gives his singing the capability to touch hearts. He beautifully sings Punjabi songs too. Most of his Punjabi songs have been extremely popular.
Though from Pakistan, Ghulam Ali remains as popular in India as in Pakistan.
He burst into the Indian scene with a Hindi film song "Chupke Chupke raat din" in B. R. Chopra's movie, 'Nikaah'.
Other popular ghazals include "Hungama hai kyon barpaa" and "Awaargi, yeh dil yeh paagal Dil mera", and many more.
On being questioned about Indian, Pakistani pop groups, Ghulam Ali replied, "Frankly, I am really bewildered at their style of singing. How can you sing a song by running and jumping around the stage? The stage is meant for performing not for acrobatics."
Ali has also sung some beautiful ghazals like Kina Kina Timro Tasveer, Gajalu Tee Thula Thula Aankha, Lolaaeka Tee Thula and Ke Chha Ra Diun in Nepali language with Narayan Gopal, a wellknown Nepali singer, and composer Deepak Jangam.
These songs were compiled in an album entitled Narayan Gopal, Ghulam Ali Ra Ma, and are popular among Nepali music lovers to this day.

About Singer:
Pakistani singer Abida Parveen , is one of the foremost exponents of Sufi music. Her forte is the kafi and the ghazal, though she has also ventured into traditional male territory and sung qawwalis. She is known for her particularly stunning voice, as well as her vivid musical imagination.
She has attained legendary status in the Indian Sub-Continent.
Abida was born in Larkana (Sindh province, Pakistan) in 1954. She received her musical training initially from her father, Ghulam Haider, and subsequently from Ustad Salamat Ali Khan. She embarked upon her professional career from Radio Pakistan, Hyderabad, in 1973.
Although she is associated most closely with the verses of the Sufi saint shah Abdul Latif, she has also sung the verses of other Sufi saints, including Amir Khusrau, Bulleh shah, Sachal Sarmast, Sultan Bahu, and others such as Kabir and Waris shah. In recent years, it has become fashionable to call Abida the true inheritor of the mantle of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, a giant of Sufi music who died in 1997.
Abida is perhaps equally renowned as an accomplished Ghazal singer in Urdu and Sindhi, and an exponent of Punjabi, Urdu and Sindhi Sufiana Kalam, which literally translates as the 'Sayings of the Sufis', comprising the poems and aphorisms of the great Sufis of the Indian sub-Continent. Sufiana Kalam is also closely aligned to Sikh Punjabi devotional singing, otherwise known as the "Shabad Kirtan tradition". It is always interesting to witness, in times of heightened communal tensions in the Indian Sub-Continent, Abida's husky but equally delicate voice proclaiming a deeper bond of Universal Love that soars above the boundaries that divide religious and secular denominations. In this sense, her message can be compared to the likes of Kabir and Nanak, both of whom united Hindu and Muslim.
The mystical aspect of Abida's musical message contains broad humanitarian appeal. Abida Parveen has been gifted with perhaps one of the very greatest female voices of recent times for the proclamation of arguably one of the most important messages of our time. Abida has received many prestigious music awards for her singing, and is often invited to music festivals in India and abroad. Widely and professionally regarded as the "Singers' Singer" or the Artists' Artist, it is not surprising that her admirers include some of the very best singers of the sub-continent.
Abida regularly tours the USA, Europe and the UK.
