Nadia Batson...
WITH THE 2009 touring season winding down and focus immediately gravitating to the rigours of nightlife and vocal execution in 2010, soca star Nadia Batson has once again evoked the spirit of the female Carnival lover, offering them the melody and rhythm needed to simply, Keep Wining.
With a groovy melody thats needed in the pre-Christmas, pre-Carnival build up to TTs wining season, the track produced by Julian Jullio Nelson of the Digital Hit Factory and mastered by Madman Johan, draws close to the edge, yet sweetly stays on the safe side by way of Batsons well-tuned vocals.
Keep Wining, is the first of many tantalising tracks to come from Batson, as she is adamant that her music will go beyond the world of soca, beyond even Carnival, and into the homes and hearts of all people.
In a world where the majority of emerging female artists tend to play on their sexuality or ride a wave of controversy all the way to bank, its rare to find true talent in its raw, uncut form, but this scarcity does exist. For a prime example of a diva in the making, you need look no further than Socas hottest new sensation: Nadia Batson.
Having spent years as a major force behind the scenes as a songwriter, producer and one of Trinidad And Tobagos most sought-after background vocalists, Nadia is finally taking her rightful place as one of the Caribbeans premiere solo songstresses and songwriters.
She is best known perhaps for writing a string of chart-topping and title-winning singles in the last few years, starting with her protégé, Young Marcel, for whom she has penned numerous tunes including Jumping Up (which won him the 2002 Junior Soca-Monarch crown), and Bridging The Gap (which took the teen to the Soca Monarch finals in 2003). Young Marcel won his second Junior Soca Monarch title in 2007 with another of Nadias creations Running Red.
She wrote and co-produced the now-classic hit Go Ahead (And Do Dat) for Soca diva and close friend Michelle Sylvester back in 2004. Michelle became a household name in the Caribbean, thanks to that smash, and in 2005 Sylvester went on to win the International Soca Queen and International Groovy Soca Monarch titles singing Nadias Sleeping In My Bed, while another friend and fellow Big Artiste Crew member, Terry Seales, took D Waist all the way to the Soca Monarch finals where he was a crowd favourite.
Nadia continued cranking out the hits, goping on to supply Roy Cape vocalist Rita Jones with Carnival Feeling, Michelle Sylvester with Face Me and Blaxx (of Roy Cape) with the Jouvert anthem Dutty.
Taking her talents overseas, Ms. Batson penned the mega-hit Flames for Barry Chandler (lead singer of the band Jabae), who went on to cop the Party Monarch and Road March titles in Barbados that year. In addition, Expose a song she wrote for Soca band El A Krus female vocalist Tizzy went on to claim second place in Antiguas Party Monarch competition and is now a regional smash as well thanks to the accompanying video which reached Number One on the Tempo channels Caribbean Countdown.
Somehow, Ms. Batson managed to save some hits for herself as well, starting with her Zouk-tinged breakout single, One Island which carried her all the way to the prestigious Soca Monarch Finals (along with Jones and Sylvester) in 2006 where she earned an impressive fourth place.
That same year, fans were delighted to see her begin performing as a lead vocalist with the super-popular Kes The Band, alongside renowned singer/songwriter Kees Dieffenthaller. Since then, she and Kees went on to blaze fetes and clubs with their 2007 Carnival sizzler, My Land which took them to an impressive second place at the International Soca Monarch finals.
In addition, Nadia solidified her stature as a solo singing star with the official ladies anthem for 2007, Caribbean Girl, which took her to her first International Groovy Soca Monarch finals, where she placed third.
Now a household name and a bona fide solo star, Nadia insists theres much more to come, starting with her recently released debut album, Caribbean Girl, but points out above all that shes still the same focused, humble Caribbean Girl that shes always been.
That point is aptly stressed by runaway 2008 hits like the Road March contender My Posse and other big tunes like Mind Your Own Business, Love Of My Life (Meri Zindagi), Chica (featuring Mista Vybe & Iko on the popular Response Riddim) and Confusion.
However, shes ready and willing to go to the furthest reaches that her obviously phenomenal talent can take her. As she sang so aptly in her first hit One Island: I come with a message from above / Comin to fill the place with love...
While many young starlets wrestle to attain the title of Diva, Nadia is content being one of Soca musics most consistent hit-makers, and, above all, she remains forever your Caribbean Girl.

NEW SONG FOR 2009.
Rikki Jai is ah Trinidadian chutney-soca artiste born Samraj Jaimungal in Friendship Village, San Fernando.
The prince of soca chutney, his highness Rikki Jai. Samraj "Rikki" Jai is the most successful crossover entertainer in the world. He has won the Carib Soca Chutney Monarch competition too many times to count, and has been the first Indian performer to make his mark on the soca charts with many different hit tunes. Most recently, he's known for his super hit throughout the soca and chutney universe for his song, Mor Tor. Mor Tor was almost a road march contender for the 2004 carnival season and was so popular that superstar Machel Montano also teamed up with his highness to remix the song.
Rikki Jai is also known for his past super chart topers like Scorpion, Dulahin, de River Lime and the song he broke into the scene with, Sumintra. Rikki Jai is unlike all other artists as he was the first to brake down the barrier, and allow space for 'Indian" soca entertainers to be recognized on the same stage as all the other top artists, although to this day no one has been able to reach the level at which Rikki has achieved success. None the less, he's still and always will be the true Prince of Soca Chutney music.

Nisha Bissambhar at the age of 15 made a decision that forever changed her life - a decision to sing. At that point she was still at high-school - a (forth form) student of the Lakshmi Girls Hindu College. From then on Nisha has continued following up her dream as a singer and since then has achieved nearly all heights of her singing.
In 1995 Nisha entered the first ever series of The Children of Mastana where she placed 2nd on a number of consecutive times. A year later she was a grand finalist in Mastana Bahar where she was placed 6th. She was later awarded The Contribution to Youth Excellence by Jamal Mohammed for Children of Mastana. She was then given the task amongst other top local young artistes to judge for the competition. This was done for two years.
She went on to successfully complete her studies at her High School with distinctions in English Language subjects. She continued her education upliftment by assigning herself to a number of studies, mainly computer literacy. DJ PHAZE - Radica .De Hoe
Radica Paraboo
When Kenneth Salick went down on his knees at Skinner Park, San Fernando, and poured his heart out, the subject of his love, Radica Paraboo, was watching him on television.
"I cried," she said in an interview on Monday.
She said he reminded her of the young man who courted her in the village where they both lived.
Salick, who composed the song "Radica" when she walked out of his life 16 years ago, took the Chutney Soca Monarch crown valued at $200,000 with a powerful rendition of the song during the finals held at Skinner Park, San Fernando, on Saturday night.
Though separated, the couple share a love that has endured from childhood through the years.
Radica said she had only good wishes for Salick and is "really happy for him".
She said, "I saw him while he was coming home after winning the competition but we did not get a chance to talk."
The two fell in love during childhood. Radica recalled that Salick "used to ride his bicycle up and down the road and we began talking to each other".
Salick summoned the courage to visit the Paraboo family and meet her grandfather. The teenager was pregnant at 17 and went to live with Salick. In the years that followed she gave birth to seven children.
She said she left because Salick was involved with another woman.
He took the children and moved to Eastern Main Road, Sangre Chiquito.
Left alone, Radica, 40, entered a relationship and had two other children while Salick fathered another child with the new woman in his life.
They are both single again and they both live separately in the same village at Melau, Vega de Oropouche, Sangre Grande.
Since the release of the song "Radica", there have been two replies in the chutney soca arena.
Brandstec singer, Rawytee Ramroop, sang an Asha Gajadhar composition saying, "Since I left you, I am so happy. You didn't say how you ill treat me, I had to leave."
Gayatones singer Devika Ram's reply titled "Wrong Name" suggested that Salick called her Radica instead of Devika and "that was why I went to Tobago."
They were both wrong.
Celebrations are in order and the Salicks are rejoicing. Radica Paraboo included!
Kenneth Salick said ---
First love is hard to forget, or so the saying goes.
It certainly wins the day for the chutney soca couple who, after 16 years of separation, continue to nurture warm feeling for each other, they said.
Radica Paraboo, who inspired her forlorn ex-husband to pen the song that won him the Chutney Soca Monarch title this year, will share in the $200,000 prize money.
Suddenly a celebrity, Kenneth Salick said he will share the prize with the mother of his seven children.
"I want to give she something," he said yesterday. "Ah doh know how much it going to be as yet."
Salick, 46, of Eastern Main Road, Sangre Grande, wrote the song after Paraboo left him in 1993.
"Is because of her I wrote the song and she deserve to share in the prize," he said.
He took the title from ten finalists at Skinner Park, San Fernando, last Saturday night, when the public gave him 11,625 text votes to win.
Meantime, fame is opening doors for him.
Salick has applied for a passport and will travel abroad as soon as Carnival is over to perform with Dil-e-Nadan. And he continues to perform nightly at venues across the country.
Growing up in Sangre Grande, Salick began singing 20 years ago with the Sangeet Stars Orchestra and joined several bands over the years. In 2000, he recorded his first song, "We Are One", followed by "Ram, Sita Ram". So far, he has recorded 15 songs with Zaheer "Big Rich" Khan at the Pungalunks factory in Couva and three with the Gayatones orchestra.
His songs include "A Woman in Meh Village", "Hard Wine", "The Bamboo", "Coalpot", "Tune de Thing", and others.
With a tour of the US in the works, Salick said he hopes to stay in the limelight for a long time. He has composed over 100 songs and has a CD on sale.
"The first thing I want to do with the prize money is to buy a house," he said.
Paraboo said she will use whatever money she is given by her ex-lover to buy a small house. She lives in a rented apartment and receives a monthly public assistance cheque.

Dil-E-Nadan Indian Orchestra is from Trinidad
Raymond Ramnarine - Leader, Arranger, Vocalist
Raymond started his music career at the tender age of 9 years. His love for Indian music has grown tremendously, ever since the early days of Dil-E-Nadaan. In 1985 and 1988 he toured Canada with Dil-E-Nadaan. In 1989 he composed the test-piece "Dostaana" for Saaj Sammelan. Raymond started his 'singing' career then and won the Nationwide Duet Singing Competition together with Saraswatie Maharaj.
In 1991 he toured Jamaica and entered Mastana Bahar and attained 1st place in the Preliminaries and Semi Finals, and 2dn place in the Gtand Final. Also appeared that year at the Indian Cultural Pageant to serenade the queens.
Raymond is today regarded as our most electryfying stage performer. He continues to attract endless attention whenever he performs and is still regarded as our heartrob. The band has just returned from a tour of Holland and Raymond was as usual the pick of the artists amongst many all over the world. He is looking forward to the Father's Day Spectacular with a performance that will have patrons talking for weeks about the event.
